Are you Considering a Career Change to Become a Teacher?

Teaching may just be a great career change for you.  With ongoing professional development opportunities, great working hours, comprehensive benefits, and a chance to truly make a difference in the lives of young people -- teaching provides a bright future no matter how mature you are.

Already have your Bachelor's Degree?

In Maryland, one way to acquire certification if you already have an undergraduate degree is to obtain a Master's Degree from a program which includes certification, such as the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT). These programs are considered traditional routes to teacher education, and can be part-time or full-time. They are available all over the state, so you can find one which fits your schedule and your needs. For further information regarding routes to certification for career changers, please visit our Non-Teaching Degree Holders webpage.

Interested in Learning on the Job?

There are several programs available where you can be in front of a classroom in just a few months, through such on-the-job training pathways such as Teach for America. Check out our alternative pathways to education by clicking Maryland Approved Alternative Preparation Programs.
